Jeumont Electric: electrical expertise powering fleets worldwide

Acoustic stealth, reliability, power density: defence naval equipment must satisfy particularly stringent technological requirements. To meet these demands, Jeumont Electric can draw on 125 years of experience, both in France and internationally.

Operating in both the civil and military naval sectors, Jeumont Electric designs, manufactures and maintains high-power motors and alternators, and is also active in the civil nuclear sector and major industries, notably the steel industry. “Our motors and alternators are used all over the world,” declares the company’s CEO, Renaud Moretti. In the naval sector, its equipment is used for electricity generation on submarines and surface vessels, as well as for propulsion systems.

This expertise is based on a deep understanding of the design of rotating machinery and the associated control systems. “We specialise in acoustic stealth, vibration and power density: everything that is essential in the naval sector,” Renaud Moretti explains. The French company is currently present on around forty submarines worldwide and ensures through-life support, from the supply of spare parts to preventive maintenance and repairs in the event of a fault, particularly in Asia and Northern Europe.

This technological expertise is also evident in the programme for France’s future nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the France Libre, for which Jeumont Electric has been selected alongside Naval Group and Framatome to supply several systems. “We remain focused on power generation and propulsion, with increasingly complex operational requirements demanded by our national navies, and we meet these requirements in full,” the CEO underlines.

Fitted with control levers, this demonstrator allows visitors to visualise how the engine works and to understand the constraints of submarine propulsion, thereby revealing the technical expertise that is usually hidden away within the hulls of ships and submarines.
