Jumo extends pressure measurement to ‘Ex’ environments up to 1,000 bar
At Euronaval, Jumo is presenting the TAROS H48 Ex, a pressure transmitter designed for environments combining very high pressure and explosive atmospheres. Capable of measuring up to 1,000 bar, it is particularly suited to hydrogen, renewable energy, high-pressure hydraulics and naval applications.

The JUMO TAROS H48 Ex measures gases and liquids up to 1,000 bar and can withstand test pressures in excess of 1,050 bar. Compact (weighing approximately 100 grams), it outputs a 4–20mA signal and responds in under 5 minutes. It is particularly suitable for use in compressors, piping networks, tanks, distribution stations, skids, hydraulic power units and test benches.
Designed for potentially explosive atmospheres, the JUMO TAROS H48 Ex meets ATEX and IECEx requirements for gases and dust. It also holds approvals tailored to various markets, including those from the independent global organisation Det Norske Veritas (DNV) for marine applications.
From hydrogen to new energy sources
Hydrogen is one of the key markets targeted by Jumo. Stored at 700 bar in distribution stations, it requires equipment capable of accurately measuring this level of pressure while resisting overpressure. The TAROS H48 Ex is available in a version specifically designed for hydrogen, meeting the requirements of safety standard CSA ANSI HGV 3.1:2022 covering fuel system components for compressed hydrogen gas powered vehicles.
“Pressure levels are increasing in many applications,” observes Michel Ediar, Sales Director at Jumo France. This trend also applies to high-pressure hydraulics, test benches and certain on-board equipment. At the same time, applications in explosive atmospheres are growing in the biogas, biomethane and biomass sectors.
Safety and robustness
The sensor withstands vibrations of 20g between 15 and 2,000 hertz and shocks of 100g. Jumo applies the intrinsic safety (Ex i) principle, which limits the available electrical energy to prevent any source of ignition. The manufacturer also provides the data required for the Explosion Protection Document (EPD) and allows installation up to 190m away from associated equipment. Thanks to its modular design, it can be adapted to different requirements, with a variety of measurement ranges, connections, connectors and options, including an oil- and grease-free version, a flow restrictor and a 3.1 Material Test Certificate. The JUMO TAROS H48 Ex is available for temperature classes T4 to T6.
“We offer a modular range that each customer can configure to suit their needs,” explains Ediar. This approach is particularly aimed at equipment manufacturers and system integrators, who can use the same family of sensors across different projects and markets. Zero-point correction by magnet is carried out on-site without opening the sensor, while the available approvals can reduce qualification procedures.
Maritime focus
The marine sector is one of Jumo’s target markets. Applications for the JUMO TAROS H48 Ex include hydraulic circuits, compressed gases and alternative fuels. Its compact design, resistance to shock and vibration, ability to measure up to 1,000 bar and DNV certification option meet the sector’s requirements, in both new builds and retrofits.
Going beyond the sensor alone, Jumo aims to offer a comprehensive measurement chain, from equipment installed in Ex zones to associated equipment in non-Ex zones, complete with safety documentation and user support. “Our strategy is to be a supplier of systems and solutions, not just a sensor provider,” declares Ediar.
